Southern African Faith Communities' Environment Institute Resources
Resources from Bishop Geoff Davies of the Southern African Faith Communities' Environment Institute:
- First is the booklet from the Tällberg Forum on The Greatest Challenges of our Time. It really makes one conscious of the seriousness of our environmental position.
- I have used some of that information in my talk for the Ruth Edgecombe Environmental Challenges Memorial Lecture, which is posted on the SAFCEI website. Alternatively you may like to just read the media release on our website or the Witness report on it.
- The WWF has published its Living Planet Report, which is worth reading – and available as a free download. It’s somewhat tricky to print out as the page size keeps changing, so if you want a hard copy, rather wait until they’re available from WWF.
- Another important report was the World Watch Institute 2010 report, Transforming Cultures: From Consumerism to Sustainability. “This is the definitive guide to culture and sustainability…If you’re involved in transforming our world for the better, it is essential reading!”– Tim Jackson, author of Prosperity Without Growth
- Two films to see if you can are Food Inc. and The End of the Line.
Next year the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) is to be held in South Africa. You will be hearing much more about this – it’s the World Cup of Climate Change! The faith communities are planning a major initiative. Watch this space!
